BELMOND CAP JULUCA

Situated on a secluded stretch of sand near the southernmost tip of Anguilla, the legendary Belmond Cap Juluca has been completely reimagined with a modern sensibility yet has a nod to its storied past with its Greco-Moorish architecture. It’s the only hotel located on Maundays Bay, one of the most gorgeous beaches on the island, which makes it feel truly exclusive and all the more private. It’s a place where “island time” is no such thing thanks to the standout service and where relaxing comes easy thanks to the breathtaking beach just steps away from you at any given moment…

THE ACCOMMODATIONS. Dotted along a curved mile-long stretch of powdered-white sands, standalone villas are just steps away from the shore and offer a unique sense of privacy. Each over-sized room and suite comes with an ocean view and your own 24-hour butler. The really beautiful bathrooms are an oasis in and of themselves: they are big (like, really really big!), they are light with show-stopping travertine marble, and they are really airy with glass complemented by greenery that brings the outdoors in! Again, there’s a real sense of privacy as each accommodation comes with a reserved pair of sun loungers right outside your villa on the beach to which the attendants will keep delivering water, chilled towels, and treats throughout the day. And better yet, each lounger is outfitted with a buzzer so you can easily call for service at any given moment.

  • Our favorite rooms? We absolutely love all of the ground-floor beachfront suites that come with a private plunge pool (be it a one bedroom casita that can be configured to a two-bedroom option, or the stunning signature Jonquil Suite that’s two bedrooms and also has a jacuzzi with the plunge pool!). For the ultimate privacy, we also love the beachfront pool villas that come in three and five bedroom configurations and are great for families or groups.

  • Good to note: Although each room comes with its own pair of bicycles and suite categories or above come with a complimentary golf-cart — we’re partial to the rooms located closer to the hotel’s main areas and restaurants.

THE DINING. With four restaurants on property, there’s plenty of variety to make sure no one goes hungry! What stands out the most about the dining is not just the food, but two things:

  1. The property is so in tuned to dietary restrictions — so much so that you’ll find each menu item has a number to reference any and every possible trace that could be a potential concern… And it goes far beyond your usual allergies or intolerances like peanut, dairy and gluten.

  2. The service is impeccable… The staff is incredible and will remember all of your dietary restrictions and preferences including the littlest details like how you like your coffee or that you like a side of gluten-free toast with your breakfast every morning.

Pimms is an island institution and is one of the most romantic restaurants on the island. The menu features elevated Anguillan classics like jerk chicken served with summer corn panna cotta and sea salt caramel popcorn plus fresh caught fish like whole grilled Anguillan lobster, snapper, crayfish, scallops and more!

Named after its sister restaurant in Venice, Cip’s by Cipriani is the more casual restaurant and offers favorite Italian classic comfort food for that much needed carb-inducing coma.

Maunday’s Club by the pool features different menus for lunch and dinner. By day, you’ll find Caribbean light bites and come evening, you’ll find authentic Peruvian tapas with so an incredible assortment of fresh ceviche and sharable plates.

The Cap Shack is a great beachside shack that serves barbecued dishes and crave-worthy bowls straight from a vintage truck. Think: jerk chicken wings, conch and mahi tacos, and all different kinds of poke.

THE FACILITIES. The beach is definitely a highlight here and when you’re not soaking up the sun with seemingly no one around you, there’s a wide selection of complimentary non- motorized water sports including sunfish sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, windsurfing, hobie cat, snorkeling and more! Should you wish to stray from the beach, there’s a gorgeous family-friendly infinity pool with chaises and cabanas available. On the fitness front, there’s a huge gym along early morning yoga and fitness boot camps. There’s also a basketball and tennis court on property with private tennis lessons available. The Arawak Spa is hosted in a villa with a pool and is rather intimate with just three treatment rooms, plus two beach cabanas available for alfresco treatments.

TIME TO GO. December — May

PERFECT FOR. Couples, families, and groups of friends alike!

ASK US ANYTHING

You asked, we're answering! Thank you to everyone who asked us so many great questions on our Instagram Story! Here's our answer to a few of your burning questions...

Is Anguilla in the hurricane belt? Should we avoid it in late summer and fall? Historically, late summer and the fall is considered the Hurricane season and unfortunately Anguilla is not exempt from that. That said, it could be a really good time of year to go since you’ll often times find really great lower rates than you would typically find in the “high season”… And in all honesty with the weather changing so much lately (and this is true for many parts of the world) it’s really tough to say or give a definitive answer. Also good to note that Belmond Cap Juluca (and many others!) closes for a short period around that time — this year it will be closed August 30, 2020 through October 24, 2020.

Is there a kids club? Yes, there's an Explorer's Club that's perfect for children aged 4 to 12, plus so many family-friendly activities on property!

Favorite villa location to book for families with younger kids? It really will depend on personal preferences, but we definitely would recommend considering an accommodation towards the far side of the beach where there's a playground and fun activities for the kids! If you're not booking an entire villa and need more than two rooms, there's a selection of connecting rooms available!

Any large villas? Yes! Depending on how large you're looking for, there's a 3-bedroom and 5-bedroom villa option, which are great for groups and families!
